Machinist III (Aerospace)

Location: Onsite in Torrance, California, United States; 1st shift, 6:00am–2:30pm

What you will do

• Set up and operate manual and CNC machines, including gear-making, milling, turning, drilling, grinding, honing, and profiling equipment.
• Plan machining sequences, select or improve tooling, perform changeovers, and meet production cycle-time standards.
• Produce, inspect, deburr, and troubleshoot precision aerospace hardware across varied alloy steels and other materials.
• Use precision measuring instruments, comparator charts, GD&T blueprints, and gear data charts for first-piece and in-process inspections.
• Edit G-code and M-code, perform CNC block checks, and collaborate with programming and engineering teams to resolve machining issues.
• Mentor junior operators and support continuous-improvement initiatives such as 5S and Kaizen.

Requirements

• 7 or more years of shaping machining experience, including Gleason shapers, hobbing, and gear-cutting machines.
• Complete understanding of gear making, shaping, and skiving, including internal and external gears and splines.
• Ability to set up and operate at least two types of manual or CNC machines.
• Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, dyer gauges, CMM reports, and other shop precision instruments.
• Ability to interpret complex GD&T symbols, gear data charts, blueprints, and operation sheets.
• Ability to understand and apply work instructions and training in English; the role is subject to U.S. export-controlled information access requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with Gleason Shaper P500 or GP300 and Gleason Hobbing Machine H400.
• Experience with Okuma 5-axis machining centers, multi-tasking lathes, Swiss-style lathes, or automated cells.
• Experience with robotic part loaders, pallet changers, tool-wear management, and machine-offset updates.
