TL;DR
Conventional Machinist (Aerospace): Machining precision aerospace parts and instruments on conventional lathes, milling machines, grinders, drill presses, and related equipment with an accent on blueprint interpretation, geometric dimensional tolerances, and precision inspection. Focus on setting up tooling, monitoring cutting operations, detecting equipment issues, and verifying finished parts against specifications.

Location: Burbank, California, United States; onsite, first shift Monday–Friday, 5:30 AM–2:00 PM. Overtime and weekend work may be required.

Salary: $24.87–$31.74 per hour

What you will do

  • Set up, adjust, and operate conventional lathes, milling machines, shapers, grinders, drill presses, and specialized tooling.
  • Machine, fabricate, modify, and repair precision parts and mechanical instruments to blueprint specifications.
  • Align and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials.
  • Monitor machine feeds and speeds, listen for malfunctions, and compensate for machining problems.
  • Measure, examine, and test completed parts using micrometers, calipers, height gages, and other precision inspection equipment.
  • Coordinate with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.

Requirements

  • At least one year of training in conventional machining, including on-the-job and informal training.
  • Knowledge of inspection equipment, safety procedures, geometric dimensional tolerancing, cutting tool geometry, tooling, and coordination.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work efficiently, communicate clearly, maintain accurate records, and demonstrate strong attention to detail.
  • Where access to controlled data or information is required, only US Persons will be considered due to ITAR requirements.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, use required PPE, and lift or push up to 40 pounds.

Nice to have

  • Experience in the aerospace industry.
  • Machine shop classes at a local junior college.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics, geometry, and trigonometry.
