Senior Back End Engineer (Insurtech)

Location: Remote within the United States, excluding U.S. territories. Core meeting hours are 9 AM–2 PM Pacific time. Occasional travel may be requested but is not required.

Salary: $195,000–$280,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain client-facing and internal APIs.
• Architect data flows across backend services, applications, and third-party systems.
• Design database schemas and scalable data storage solutions.
• Lead complex product features from concept through deployment.
• Develop automated testing frameworks and improve software quality and reliability.
• Improve architecture, performance, observability, security, and reliability while mentoring engineers.

Requirements

• 6–8 years of experience in backend or full-stack software engineering.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• Working knowledge of Go and professional experience with Go, Python, Ruby, TypeScript, or C#.
• Experience developing and deploying high-performance client/server systems for business-critical applications.
• Experience with databases, messaging systems, cloud infrastructure, and modern CI/CD practices.
• Knowledge of software security, testing methodologies, engineering best practices, communication, ownership, and mentorship.

Nice to have

• Experience with GraphQL, gRPC, Postgres, Mongo, Snowflake, Kafka, Python, TypeScript, Docker, Kubernetes, or AWS.
• Experience in insurance, banking, investing, or another financial sector.
