Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Python/Kotlin)

Location: Remote within the United States

Base pay: $195,000–$255,000 per year in CA, WA, NY, NJ, and CT; $173,000–$233,000 per year in all other U.S. states.

What you will do

• Develop APIs used by partners and merchants to integrate with Affirm.
• Contribute to projects supporting major partners such as Amazon and Stripe.
• Design and implement backend solutions that interact with multiple software components.
• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders, communicating risks and trade-offs.
• Balance delivery speed and code quality while protecting systems from downtime.
• Review code, debug existing systems, and contribute to team growth activities.

Requirements

• Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
• Professional or internship experience with Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Ability to write clear, well-tested, and extensible code in a large codebase.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Equivalent practical experience or a bachelor's degree in a related field.
