Facilities Engineer (Life Sciences)

Location: Cambridge, United Kingdom; full-time on-site position

What you will do

• Ensure reliable operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and general facilities systems across assigned properties.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, inspections, repairs, and equipment checks to minimize downtime.
• Support critical laboratory, office, and operational environments.
• Maintain system records and track work orders against KPIs and SLAs.
• Ensure compliance with EHS requirements, building regulations, and site-specific standards.
• Provide occasional out-of-hours or on-call support and flex working hours when required.

Requirements

• High school diploma, equivalent qualification, or relevant technical qualification.
• 8–10+ years of experience in a facilities or laboratory setting.
• Foundational skills in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to understand and uphold building codes, regulations, and Environmental Health & Safety policies.
• Minimum NVQ Level 3 qualification; approved or certified electrical technician status is preferred.
• Ability to routinely lift 5–10 kg, occasionally lift up to 30 kg, and stand for long periods.

Nice to have

• Construction project management experience.
• Experience supporting BSL-2 laboratory environments, including pressure control, pressurization, and contamination prevention.
• Experience with ISO 14001 and biotech or research settings.
• Experience maintaining critical laboratory systems such as ultra-low freezers, DI water, CO₂, and backup power.
