Microwave Design Engineer (Fusion)

Location: Munich, Germany; on-site

Developing next-generation stellarator fusion machines and the hardware and infrastructure required for a commercial fusion power plant.

What you will do

• Design high-power RF and millimeter-wave components for the Alpha Heating System.
• Collaborate with physicists to meet plasma physics, thermal, and mechanical constraints.
• Develop and evaluate vendor designs to optimize power delivery to the stellarator and reduce costs.
• Perform mechanical, thermal, sensitivity, and multi-physics analyses under vacuum, magnetic-field, temperature, and MW-scale RF loads.
• Build and test first-of-a-kind components in the laboratory and interface them with other stellarator systems.
• Coordinate with Alpha project management to deliver RF components on schedule.

Requirements

• Strong RF engineering experience with millimeter-wave system design.
• Experience with RF modeling tools such as SURF3D, CST, COMSOL, GdfidL, openEMS, or Python-based codes, including modeling at 200 GHz.
• Experience validating first-of-a-kind designs through multi-scale and multi-physics simulation, testing, and prototyping.
• Experience with gyrotrons and related transmission systems, launcher antennas, or RF loads.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and collaborate effectively across disciplines.
