RF & Plasma Technologist (Semiconductor)

Location: Newport, United Kingdom; international travel and occasional shift work required

hirify.global's SPTS division designs and manufactures wafer processing solutions for semiconductor and related industries, including etch and deposition systems.

What you will do

• Design and develop plasma hardware for etch and deposition sources, electrodes, electrostatic chucks, gas distribution systems, and chamber internals.
• Design, model, build, and test RF matching networks, feed structures, transmission systems, and grounding assemblies.
• Investigate impedance matching, power coupling, losses, harmonics, parasitic current paths, plasma uniformity, ion energy, etch rate, and process repeatability.
• Plan laboratory experiments, analyse diagnostic data, document results, and support troubleshooting and root-cause investigations.
• Support prototype builds, system integration, qualification, and product release.
• Lead technical reviews, mentor engineers, engage with customers and suppliers, and contribute to technology roadmaps and patent development.

Requirements

• PhD or MSc in Physics, Plasma Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related discipline.
• Extensive industrial experience with deep expertise in plasma processing, RF engineering, vacuum systems, and semiconductor equipment.
• Experience delivering complex technology from concept and modelling through prototype validation and product release.
• Experience with RF, plasma, electromagnetic, circuit, or process modelling tools such as COMSOL Multiphysics, Ansys HFSS, or HPEM.
• Strong communication skills and credibility as a cross-functional technical authority.

Nice to have

• Formal or informal team-lead experience.
• Semiconductor equipment development and Stage-Gate product development experience.
• Knowledge of EMC, electrical safety, and RF compliance.
