Lead Software Engineer - AI

Location: Remote, but must live close to one of hirify.global's designated U.S. IT locations: NYC, NY; Louisville, KY; Tampa, FL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Dallas/Frisco, TX; Boston, MA; Washington, D.C.; Atlanta, GA; Nashville, TN; Chicago, IL; or Charlotte, NC. Occasional travel to hirify.global offices may be required.

Salary: $155,200–$213,400 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus incentive plan.

What you will do

• Design and own end-to-end architecture for AI systems, including LLM-powered clinical tools, RAG pipelines, agent workflows, and intelligent automation.
• Evaluate foundation models and guide fine-tuning using approaches such as LoRA, RLHF, and instruction tuning.
• Build model evaluation frameworks, automated evaluation pipelines, benchmarks, and large-scale output quality assessments.
• Design and implement multi-agent systems with orchestration, tool use, and sandboxed execution environments.
• Partner with product managers, designers, clinicians, and data stakeholders to translate care delivery workflows into AI features.
• Ensure AI systems meet HIPAA and Responsible AI standards and support relevant governance reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years focused on production AI/ML systems.
• Hands-on experience with large language models, orchestration frameworks such as LangChain or LlamaIndex, RAG pipelines, vector search, and production AI systems.
• Strong proficiency in Python, TypeScript, and modern ML tooling such as Hugging Face and PyTorch.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools and LLM coding harnesses such as Claude Code, Pi Agent, Cursor, or Codex.
• Understanding of HIPAA requirements and secure handling of protected health information, with the ability to work from a dedicated space protecting PHI.

Nice to have

• Experience in healthcare, clinical informatics, or another highly regulated industry.
• Exposure to clinical NLP, medical coding, or EHR/FHIR data standards.
• Experience operating AI systems at scale on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
