Packaging Engineer

Location: Tampere, Finland; minimum 60% onsite presence each week, with higher onsite presence during key project phases. International travel is required.

What you will do

• Join new product development projects from the concept stage and design product and crate packaging through launch.
• Audit and redesign packaging across the existing product portfolio to reduce material use, transit volume, environmental impact, and quality claims.
• Develop packaging solutions for customer deliveries, internal transfers, factory-to-hub logistics, and inbound supplier flows.
• Design robust crate structures for multimodal global transport and establish vibration, impact, and atmospheric testing protocols.
• Engineer intuitive unboxing layouts that simplify customer-site assembly and reduce waste for field installers.
• Support regional packaging strategies, localized solutions, international suppliers, compliance, sustainability, and circularity.

Requirements

• Professional experience or demonstrated interest in packaging engineering within industrial manufacturing, particularly with large, heavy, or high-value modular products.
• Strong understanding of end-to-end supply chain material flows from inbound component deliveries through final customer shipment.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials, Logistics, or a related technical field.
• Proficiency with packaging design software and 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks, CAPE, ArtiosCAD, or TOPS.
• Knowledge of corrugated cardboard, wood, plywood, honeycomb boards, impact-absorbing materials, cost structures, and sustainable material selection.
• Excellent English communication skills and readiness for a minimum 60% weekly presence at the Tampere headquarters.

Nice to have

• Day-to-day communicative Finnish skills.
• Experience with regional packaging localization and international supplier networks, including North American vendors.
• Experience integrating packaging engineering into early-stage product development.
• Expertise in heavy-duty wooden or corrugated crate engineering, structural cushioning, and container load optimization.
