Assistant Safety Manager (Construction)

Location: South Hill, Virginia, United States; regular work at project jobsites is required

Salary: $69,300–$100,800 per year, with variations possible by city and state

What you will do

• Conduct onsite safety inspections using a web-based health and safety application.
• Evaluate project, subcontractor, and jobsite compliance with applicable federal, state, local, corporate, and client safety requirements.
• Track safety issues through resolution and distribute inspection results to project teams and subcontractors.
• Support accident and incident investigations, OSHA research, job hazard analysis reviews, and site-specific safety planning.
• Deliver toolbox meetings, health and safety training, orientations, and project-wide safety stand-downs.
• Support safety documentation, equipment selection, signage, subcontractor meetings, and resolution of health and safety concerns.

Requirements

• 2–5 years of safety experience, including 2–5+ years with a general contractor.
• OSHA 30 certificate required.
• Four-year degree in construction, engineering, or business preferred; additional work experience may substitute for a degree.
• Strong report writing, documentation, record-keeping, organization, communication, and multitasking skills.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, plus the ability to learn new software applications.
• Ability to work effectively with project teams and subcontractors at construction jobsites.

Nice to have

• Current First Aid, AED, and CPR certification.
• CSP, ASP, CHST, or another safety-related designation.
