Safety Manager (Heavy Civil Infrastructure)

Salary: $110,000–$185,000 per year ($53–$89 per hour)

What you will do

• Lead or support safety governance across concurrent construction contracts and maintain program procedures, audit protocols, and escalation paths.
• Review site-specific safety plans, job hazard analyses, activity hazard analyses, safety submittals, and contractor training records.
• Conduct field audits and site walks to verify controls for high-hazard activities, including excavation, bridge erection, critical lifts, fall protection, confined spaces, and work-zone traffic control.
• Drive corrective actions to verified closure and oversee incident investigations, root cause analysis, and follow-up.
• Coordinate safety planning across overlapping contractor operations and preconstruction activities.
• Report safety trends, audit results, and contractor performance to program leadership and coordinate with federal, state, and local regulators.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, safety engineering, construction management, civil engineering, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• 10+ years of construction safety experience on large, complex heavy-civil infrastructure projects valued above $500 million.
• Experience reviewing safety plans and hazard analyses, conducting field audits, enforcing safety requirements, and managing corrective actions.
• Experience with incident investigation, root cause analysis, trend reporting, and supervision or mentoring of field safety staff.
• Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926, OSHA recordkeeping and reporting, and high-hazard heavy-civil construction activities.
• Experience with safety, EHS, incident reporting, and Microsoft Office software.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a relevant safety, engineering, or construction discipline.
• Active CSP, CHST, STSC, or CIH certification.
• Owner’s representative, program management, or construction management safety oversight experience.
• Experience with rail, airport, safety training, or program-level safety governance on $1B+ programs.
• Experience with Power BI, Oracle Cloud Analytics, or other KPI dashboard software.
