Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

Location: Global, remote-friendly team with headquarters in Barcelona and colleagues across the US, UK, and beyond

hirify.global builds Nextflow and the hirify.global Platform, enabling scientists, biotech companies, academic institutions, enterprises, and public-sector organizations to scale complex data workflows.

What you will do

• Build and own the integration between hirify.global Intelligent Compute and the hirify.global Platform.
• Enable customers to configure and run compute environments across AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes, HPC schedulers, and GPU-enabled infrastructure.
• Integrate cloud provider APIs and SDKs while handling quota errors, permission issues, partial failures, and provider-specific behavior.
• Own usage metering, billing, invoice reconciliation, pay-as-you-go pricing, and free-tier onboarding.
• Design consistent data models and REST APIs across services and releases.
• Improve error handling, testing, observability, documentation, and incident diagnosis in collaboration with product, platform, infrastructure, and support teams.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience building and operating production backend services, including ownership of at least one service.
• Strong Java and/or Groovy skills with Micronaut, Spring Boot, or a similar framework.
• Hands-on experience provisioning and managing resources through a major cloud provider API.
• Production experience with Kubernetes and customer-facing systems.
• Experience designing REST APIs and data models, maintaining integrations across versions, and ensuring data integrity.
• Ability to work independently in ambiguous situations, investigate undocumented systems, and document architectural decisions.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with multiple clouds, HPC or batch schedulers, and GPU workloads.
• Experience with usage-based billing, monetization platforms, Stripe, Metronome, or pay-as-you-go pricing.
• Background in self-serve products, free tiers, bioinformatics, Nextflow, or scientific computing.
• Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, CI/CD, Angular, or open-source contributions.
