Director of Engineering (Fintech)

Location: London, with hybrid attendance at the Canary Wharf office 2–3 days per week. Working from abroad is available for up to 120 days per year, subject to having the right to work in the country of choice.

What you will do

• Set and lead engineering strategy, moving the organisation toward a clear future state with measurable progress.
• Lead a sizeable engineering organisation through Engineering Managers and build high-performing teams through hiring, performance management and effective people practices.
• Improve engineering effectiveness using meaningful metrics, data-led decision-making and practical AI experimentation.
• Challenge significant technical and architectural decisions and develop strategies to modernise, consolidate or replace technology.
• Make pragmatic build, buy or partner decisions and coordinate dependencies across engineering, architecture and platform teams.
• Partner with Product, Commercial and Technology leaders to drive shared ownership of outcomes and raise engineering standards across the organisation.

Requirements

• Experience leading sizeable engineering organisations through Engineering Managers.
• Proven ability to improve engineering effectiveness across people, technology and ways of working using data and metrics.
• Experience leading significant organisational change, setting direction and building stakeholder buy-in.
• Technical credibility in complex design and architecture decisions, including build, buy or partner evaluations.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to navigate difficult conversations and competing priorities.
• Ability to attend the London office 2–3 days per week and hold the right to work in any country used for working abroad.

• Experience in fintech, lending or another regulated environment.
