Head of Engineering, POS Application Platform (Fintech)

Location: Remote, London, United Kingdom; the role is intended to be based in the UK.

What you will do

• Own the technical strategy, architecture, and engineering standards for the Kotlin-based POS Application Platform.
• Build and govern developer tooling, shared libraries, SDKs, foundational frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and platform reliability practices.
• Lead architecture and governance across five Android POS device types from multiple OEM manufacturers.
• Own POS observability, including monitoring, alerting, uptime, quality standards, and incident response.
• Functionally lead POS engineers embedded across Payments, Onboarding, VAS, Savings, and Loans squads.
• Scale the POS platform team through hiring, mentoring, organisational design, and collaboration with product, payments, business, hardware, and OEM teams.

Requirements

• At least 10 years of hands-on software engineering experience and 6 years leading engineering teams through significant growth.
• Direct experience building software for POS terminal devices at the application layer is mandatory.
• Strong knowledge of EMV standards and payment certification processes, including PCI DSS and P2PE, is mandatory.
• Deep Android engineering expertise with Kotlin and Java is mandatory.
• Experience building internal engineering platforms, shared libraries, developer tooling, or foundational frameworks used by other engineering teams.
• Experience with multi-device POS architectures, OEM integrations, device management, platform engineering governance, and high-volume regulated financial transactions.

Nice to have

• Experience with terminal management systems and device observability tooling.
• Backend experience with Java or Spring Boot.
• Experience working directly with OEM vendors on hardware specifications and integrations.
• Exposure to C or C++.
