Head of Engineering (Payment Gateway)

What you will do

• Own the technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the Monnify payment gateway.
• Lead multiple engineering teams through engineering managers and build organisational capability.
• Own developer experience across APIs, SDKs, documentation, and integration workflows.
• Drive the platform toward multi-currency and international scalability.
• Ensure reliability, scalability, and security in a regulated payments environment.
• Partner with product, commercial, and operations teams and develop engineering managers and senior engineers.

Requirements

• Over 10 years of software engineering experience, including at least 5 years in engineering leadership.
• At least 5 years of hands-on production Java experience.
• At least 5 years managing managers and leading engineering organisations through other engineering leaders.
• Experience with payments, fintech, or financial services products and an understanding of payment flows and compliance.
• Strong knowledge of API-first products, developer platforms, API integration, and high-throughput distributed transactional systems.
• Experience with Java, Spring, Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, microservices, and AWS.

Nice to have

• Experience building or operating a payment gateway or multi-currency payment platform.

• Behavioural and technical interview with the Group CEO and founder, followed by a technical workshop with the Group CTO and co-founder.
