TL;DR
Engineering Service Transition Manager - Columbia, MD (Systems Engineering): Establishing and managing structured transitions of complex systems, projects, and engineering activities into Service with an accent on readiness governance, documentation, knowledge transfer, and operational handover. Focus on leading Service Readiness Reviews, closing technical and operational gaps, and defining Engineering/Service ownership for ongoing support.

Location: Columbia, Maryland, USA; candidates must reside in the US. Ability to travel throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe up to 30%.

Total compensation: $120,000–$160,000 annually, including base salary, variable pay when applicable, and benefits.

What you will do

  • Own the transition of system engineering projects, upgrades, and deployments into Service.
  • Establish standardized transition plans, milestones, acceptance criteria, deliverables, and readiness governance.
  • Coordinate Engineering, Service, Program Management, and Operations throughout the transition lifecycle.
  • Lead Service Readiness Reviews and close technical, documentation, training, tooling, and operational gaps.
  • Transfer system knowledge, configurations, technical documentation, maintenance procedures, open issues, and lessons learned.
  • Define Engineering and Service ownership, escalation paths, readiness metrics, and continuous-improvement practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline; a master’s degree in Engineering or Operations Management is desired.
  • 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, project or program management, service delivery, or a related technical role.
  • Experience transitioning complex technical systems into service organizations and managing system lifecycles.
  • Experience with technical documentation, knowledge transfer, training, change management, and readiness or handover criteria.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication and the ability to create clear, audit-ready documentation.
  • Must reside in the US and be a US citizen capable of receiving a US Government security clearance or Public Trust.
