Energy Engineer (Energy & Sustainability)

Location: Lyndhurst, VA, USA; occasional travel to customer sites, industrial facilities, and cold storage areas is required.

Salary: $75,000–$100,000 per year

What you will do

• Develop energy models and analyze new and existing refrigeration systems for efficiency opportunities.
• Identify system deficiencies and recommend practical, cost-effective improvements and energy conservation measures.
• Review system performance and energy usage data, prepare findings and recommendations, and support rebate and compliance documentation.
• Conduct occasional site assessments, facility walkthroughs, equipment inspections, and customer energy audits.
• Advise and train customers on energy best practices and host monthly energy-efficiency webinars through Microsoft Teams.
• Collaborate with engineering, service, and project teams to integrate energy-efficient practices into new system designs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
• At least 2 years of experience, with strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret performance data.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and technical software tools.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to remain seated or standing for extended periods and occasionally lift or carry items up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to walk through industrial sites, enter loud mechanical rooms, and work in cold storage areas with appropriate PPE.

Nice to have

• Experience or interest in energy efficiency, sustainability, or industrial system optimization.
• Familiarity with industrial refrigeration, HVAC systems, ENERGY STAR tools, utility benchmarking, or energy reporting.
• Knowledge of energy codes, regulatory requirements, or sustainability reporting.
• Professional Engineer, Certified Energy Manager, or similar certification.
