Senior Mine Planning Engineer (Mine Planning and Open-Pit Mining): Developing short- and long-range mine plans, pit phases, haul road layouts, mining sequences, and production schedules with an accent on operational efficiency, drill and blast coordination, and ore control. Focus on analyzing geotechnical and geological data, estimating equipment and production requirements, and coordinating mine development projects with operations, geology, and engineering stakeholders.
Location: Butte, Montana, United States
What you will do
- Develop short-term mine plans and monitor daily mining activities, equipment productivity, production targets, and costs.
- Coordinate drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling operations with operations, geology, maintenance, environmental, and safety teams.
- Evaluate pit phases, pushbacks, haul road layouts, and mining sequences for short- and long-range mine plans.
- Produce ore control maps and related deliverables using reserve and blasthole models in collaboration with geology, assay, and metallurgical engineering.
- Lead or support short-range mine design and mine development projects, coordinating with consultants, contractors, and vendors.
- Improve operational efficiency, reduce downtime, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Five or more years of progressive mining engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge of mine design, mine planning software, and engineering principles.
- Experience with Hexagon MinePlan 3D, Vulcan, Deswik, Surpac, AutoCAD, or similar systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, project management, verbal communication, and written communication skills.
- Ability to support MSHA and environmental compliance, risk assessments, hazard analyses, ground control, and slope stability planning.

- Experience in hard rock open-pit mining.
- Experience leading major mining projects.
