Utilities Coordinator (Rail Infrastructure)

Location: San Francisco, California, United States; long-term, full-time onsite position in the greater San Francisco Bay Area

Salary: $115,000–$165,000 per year ($55–$79 per hour)

What you will do

• Identify existing utilities, coordinate new installations, and develop strategies to resolve conflicts before they affect design or construction.
• Coordinate with public and private utility owners on ownership records, relocation requirements, utility agreements, cost responsibility, and reimbursement terms.
• Maintain the utility conflict matrix, document clearance decisions, track relocation schedules, and escalate schedule slippage before it affects the critical path.
• Prepare utility permit applications and verify compliance with accommodation policies, right-of-way requirements, easements, property rights, and environmental regulations.
• Review design plans, construction documents, and utility record drawings; support field investigations, relocations, subsurface utility engineering, and outage or closure windows.
• Maintain coordination records, correspondence, and approvals for payment, audit, and claims review.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least 6 years of utility coordination experience, preferably on transportation infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of water, sewer, gas, electric, and telecommunications systems, utility accommodation policies, right-of-way requirements, easements, property rights, and environmental regulations.
• Ability to interpret plans, profiles, construction documents, and utility record drawings to identify and route conflicts for resolution.
• Proficiency with Esri ArcGIS, Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bluebeam Revu, project and construction management software such as Primavera P6, MS Project, Unifier, or Kahua, and Microsoft Office 365.
• Must work onsite in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, California. Employment is subject to E-Verify, and positions may require a background check and drug test.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in civil engineering or construction management.
• CUCP and/or PMP certification.
• Experience with large, complex heavy-civil transportation projects and dense urban utility corridors.
• Experience negotiating utility agreements, betterment splits, reimbursement schedules, and coordinating alternative delivery programs exceeding $100 million.
• Experience with ASCE 38 subsurface utility engineering quality levels and dashboard tools such as Power BI or Oracle Cloud Analytics.
