TL;DR
Quality Engineer - Nights & Weekend Shifts + Differential Pay (Manufacturing): Monitoring and improving manufacturing process quality for HTS Magnet production and SPARC assemblies with an accent on process stability, defect resolution, and first-of-a-kind hardware quality. Focus on leading NCR workflows, conducting 8D root cause analyses, refining process plans, and implementing corrective actions for complex fabrication challenges.

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; on-site. The role requires nights, weekends, and occasional on-call work, travel, and work in an industrial facility with heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics.

Salary: $90,000–$145,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Own the end-to-end Non-Conformance Report workflow, identify deviations, manage material disposition, and lead 8D root cause analyses and corrective actions.
  • Drive process stability by executing Quality Plans and Process Plans for HTS Magnet manufacturing and SPARC assemblies.
  • Monitor process health and hardware quality in low-volume, complex production using defect trending, inspection results, and Measurement System Analysis.
  • Provide technical oversight for off-shift inspections and verify that hardware meets engineering requirements.
  • Refine manufacturing instructions and process plans with Manufacturing and Engineering teams.
  • Support supplier quality activities by documenting supplier-related defects and contributing to root cause investigations and action plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Materials Science, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing, assembly, or equipment manufacturing environment, including 1–2 years in Quality Engineering.
  • Experience with ISO 9001:2015, Six Sigma, Statistical Process Control, Process Capability Analysis, PFMEA, Measurement System Analysis, and APQP.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work required nights, weekends, and occasional on-call shifts; ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lb.
  • Ability to work safely in an industrial facility and perform prolonged standing, sitting, typing, stooping, and climbing.

Nice to have

  • GD&T, metrology, NDE methods, cryogenics, or welding process and nondestructive testing experience.
  • Experience with Minitab, JMP, Excel with VBA, or Visio.
  • Experience assembling large metallic components or using CMM and Romer Arm equipment.
  • Experience with cryogenic plants, systems, and environments.
