Fiber Optics Manufacturing Engineer (Fiber Optics)

What you will do

• Develop, standardize, qualify, and continuously improve manufacturing processes for fiber optic cables and assemblies.
• Transition fiber optic products from R&D and prototype builds into repeatable, scalable production.
• Optimize fiber handling, routing, splicing, wrapping, jacketing, bonding, termination, and cable assembly processes.
• Design and improve tooling, fixtures, equipment, workstations, process controls, and production documentation.
• Partner with design, quality, test, supply chain, specialists, and production teams on DFM/DFA, inspection, testing, and production readiness.
• Use data analysis, experiments, root-cause analysis, RCCA, and continuous improvement methods to reduce fiber damage, scrap, rework, and cycle time while improving yield and throughput.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Optical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience involving fiber optics, optical products, cable assembly, precision assembly, or other technically sensitive processes.
• Direct experience with fiber optic manufacturing, cable assembly, optical fiber handling, splicing, testing, or related precision processes.
• Knowledge of process development, process control, troubleshooting, continuous improvement, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, RCCA, DOE, SPC, or process capability.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and perform extended periods of standing, sitting, typing, and stooping.
• Ability to work on-site and comply with safety requirements involving potential exposure to heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics. Occasional travel, nights, weekends, or on-call work may be required.

Nice to have

• Experience with optical measurements such as attenuation, insertion loss, continuity, spectral analysis, OTDR, OSA, OBR, or optical power meters.
• Experience with specialty fibers, fiber proof testing, optical assemblies, or products with tight mechanical, geometric, or optical requirements.
• Experience designing or procuring manufacturing equipment, tooling, fixtures, and process controls.
• CAD experience and ability to interpret technical drawings, GD&T, and tolerance stack-ups.
• Experience with work instructions, process mapping, time studies, capacity modeling, equipment specifications, maintenance plans, and manufacturing data analysis.
