Optical Metrology Technician (Fiber Optics)

What you will do

• Perform optical inspections, measurements, testing, and process verification for production operations.
• Evaluate dimensional, surface, and optical performance characteristics of fiber optic connectors, ferrules, assemblies, and related components.
• Operate, program, troubleshoot, and maintain optical metrology and inspection equipment.
• Conduct first article inspections, capability studies, gauge verification, calibration, and process qualification activities.
• Investigate measurement-system and inspection issues and support engineering teams with new measurement methods, fixtures, and manufacturing processes.
• Analyze measurement data, train production personnel, maintain technical documentation, and contribute to quality and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Associate degree in applied science, optical technology, engineering technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent education and experience.
• At least 2 years of experience as an optical, metrology, precision measurement, or similar technician.
• Hands-on experience in optical component manufacturing, fiber optic connector production, or precision manufacturing.
• Knowledge of optical inspection, measurement, testing, equipment calibration, measurement-system verification, and technical documentation.
• Experience with microscopes, interferometers, vision systems, measurement software, data collection systems, or analysis tools.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and inspection requirements and collaborate in a manufacturing environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with fiber optic connectors, ferrules, polishing processes, or optical assemblies.
• Knowledge of SPC, process capability studies, automated optical inspection, or advanced metrology technologies.
• Experience with new product development, manufacturing process validation, high-volume continuous improvement, or technical certifications in metrology, quality, optics, or manufacturing.
