What you will do

  • Handle, route, splice, test, and repair thousands of fibers throughout the SPARC fusion machine.
  • Integrate fiber assemblies with mechanical components such as passthrough flanges and enclosures.
  • Install composite or polymer wrappings and minimize fiber damage and attenuation throughout the fiber lifecycle.
  • Perform equipment operation, preventative maintenance, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Train technicians in fiber installation, splicing, routing, and measurement procedures.
  • Support manufacturing and R&D while improving laser and fiber-optic safety protocols.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in fiber-optics field applications.
  • Experience measuring attenuation, insertion loss, and spectral analysis using equipment such as OTDR, OSA, OBR, and power meters.
  • Laboratory experience handling fibers according to established standards.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform extended periods of standing, sitting, stooping, and typing.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, awkward positions, and on platforms approximately 25 feet high.
  • Ability to work on-site in Devens, Massachusetts, and comply with U.S. export-control laws.

Nice to have

  • 7+ years of experience in fiber-optics field applications.
  • Experience with distributed sensing arrays, polyimide fibers, specialty coated fibers, and fiber proof-testing.
  • Experience teaching fiber-splicing techniques and cable assembly procedures.
  • Experience designing, building, and testing fiber cable assemblies for cryogenic and vacuum environments.
  • Knowledge of optical sensing, attenuation and insertion-loss mechanisms, and basic materials science.

Culture & Benefits

  • Collaborative, multidisciplinary work with technicians, engineers, Operations, Maintenance, and Quality teams.
  • Safety-focused environment involving industrial hazards such as heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics.
  • Equity and competitive compensation.
  • 13 company-wide holidays, flexible vacation days, 10 sick days, and parental leave.
  • Health, dental, vision insurance, 401(k) matching, professional growth opportunities, and team-building activities.
