Mechanisms Engineer, Payloads (Aerospace)

Location: Los Angeles, California, United States; in-person collaboration at the Playa Vista office

Salary: $100,000–$195,000 targeted annual base salary, excluding additional benefits

What you will do

• Design and develop spacecraft payload deployment and articulation mechanisms, including hinges, latches, actuators, release mechanisms, and moving assemblies.
• Own mechanism hardware from concept through design, manufacturing, integration, and testing.
• Create 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, tolerance analyses, and GD&T documentation.
• Perform calculations and analyses covering loads, kinematics, stiffness, life, and mechanism performance.
• Select and integrate motors, bearings, springs, fasteners, actuators, and related components.
• Collaborate with spacecraft, payload, manufacturing, and supplier teams to assemble, troubleshoot, integrate, and test hardware.

Requirements

• U.S. Person status is required to access export-controlled data.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience designing and developing mechanical hardware.
• Proficiency with CAD software such as NX or SolidWorks.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals, GD&T, and tolerance analysis.
• Strong hands-on problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

• Experience designing deployment, articulation, or electromechanical mechanisms for spacecraft, aerospace, robotics, or similar systems.
• Experience with actuators, hinges, latches, release mechanisms, motors, bearings, or related components.
• Experience taking mechanisms through manufacturing, integration, and testing.
• Experience with kinematic, structural, or mechanism analysis and environmental or life-cycle testing.
• Experience with NX and Teamcenter.
