TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace) (CAD/FEA): Designing and validating structural and mechanical systems for full-size autonomous cargo aircraft with an accent on composite and metallic structures, mechanisms, tooling, and manufacturability. Focus on finite element analysis, production-ready drawings, hands-on prototype testing, and collaboration across manufacturing, aerodynamics, and flight-test teams.

Location: Alameda, United States; on-site

Company

hirify.global develops and operates full-size autonomous cargo aircraft capable of carrying two tons of payload over more than a thousand nautical miles.

What you will do

  • Design aircraft structures, mechanisms, tooling, linkages, control-surface systems, and subsystem mounting systems using CAD.
  • Perform finite element analysis to validate strength, stiffness, and load paths in composite and metallic components.
  • Create detailed part and assembly drawings, manufacturing documentation, and inspection documentation.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, aerodynamics, and test teams to develop practical, cost-effective, and maintainable designs.
  • Support structural and mechanical testing, including prototype, fixture, and test-rig development.
  • Maintain CAD libraries, revision control, and configuration management for aircraft assemblies.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as Fusion, SolidWorks, CATIA, or NX.
  • Strong understanding of structural design, stress analysis, mechanical systems, flight mechanics, and aircraft dynamics.
  • Experience with FEA tools such as ANSYS, Fusion Simulation, Nastran, or similar.
  • Ability to apply GD&T and mechanical tolerancing to production drawings.
  • Hands-on comfort with prototypes, test articles, shop tools, and composite or metallic fabrication methods.

Nice to have

  • Experience with bonded composite structures, hybrid assemblies, actuation systems, linkages, or motion mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of vibration, fatigue, or modal analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with machining, additive manufacturing, or assembly tooling.
  • Familiarity with design for manufacturing and design for assembly.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB or Python, or exposure to aerospace certification and flight-test environments.

Culture & Benefits

  • Early-stage equity and competitive compensation.
  • Relocation support where applicable.
  • Employee health benefit plans and 6% retirement matching.
  • Flexible PTO.
  • Free lunches, snacks, a stocked office fridge, and AI tools and subscriptions.
