Functional System Architect (Automotive Electrification)

Location: Milford, Michigan, United States; hybrid work with reporting to the Milford location at least three times per week

What you will do

• Own the architectural vision and solution context for the Battery and High Voltage Agile Release Train.
• Define functional architecture, requirements, interfaces, APIs, deployment needs, and feature or epic decomposition for high-voltage battery systems.
• Guide the integration of embedded software, controls, and hardware covering contactor controls, energy management, battery state estimation, sensing, and diagnostics.
• Lead architecture-level development, testing, validation strategies, FMEA linkage, and requirements traceability.
• Provide technical direction, mentoring, and requirements guidance to systems and software engineering teams throughout agile development.
• Lead technical discussions, demonstrations, roadmap prioritization, and resolution of critical functional, regulatory, compliance, and customer issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, electronics, automotive, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of engineering experience in embedded control systems, software, electrification, calibration, related hardware, safety-critical systems, or systems engineering.
• Experience with requirements development, automotive systems engineering, system architecture, electrification, and embedded controls.
• Understanding of software development processes, architecture and design trade-offs, and complex problem solving.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with architecture, controls, software, hardware, and adjacent teams.
• Strong communication, prioritization, mentoring, and technical leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Advanced engineering degree focused on controls, electrical engineering, or computer science.
• 10+ years of relevant engineering experience and experience leading ambiguous, cross-functional projects.
• Experience with SAFe, Agile, requirements management tools such as GitHub, DNG, or DOORS, and embedded development tools including Jira, Git, and INCA.
• Familiarity with software-defined vehicle architecture, mechatronic architecture, automated testing, build deployment, and data or AI tools.
