TL;DR
Critical Operations Manager (Data Center): Operating and maintaining mechanical, electrical, fire life safety, and other critical data center systems with an accent on uptime, preventive maintenance, safety, and operational compliance. Focus on leading site operations teams, managing CAPEX and OPEX budgets, executing projects, analyzing incidents, and preventing customer-impacting outages.

Location: Plano, Texas, United States. The role requires approximately 20% travel, variable working hours, weekend and holiday availability, and on-call support. Must be eligible to work in the United States.

What you will do

  • Lead all operational aspects and uptime of a local data center campus, including electrical, mechanical, fire life safety, base building, CMS, EPMS, and BMS systems.
  • Manage critical operations staff, including Assistant Critical Operations Managers and Critical Operations Technicians, with approximately 4–12 direct reports.
  • Implement preventive and predictive maintenance, efficiency initiatives, training plans, technical procedures, and site operations standards.
  • Develop and manage CAPEX and OPEX budgets, forecasts, vendor relationships, service contracts, procurement, billing, and project execution.
  • Lead incident reporting, root cause analysis, audits, commissioning coordination, and procedures that prevent unplanned customer-impacting outages.
  • Act as a customer liaison and provide day-to-day technical support for site-level inquiries.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 5–7 years of experience in data center or other mission-critical operations.
  • 3–5 years of experience administering facility preventive maintenance programs and managing vendors and projects.
  • Expert understanding of data center electrical and mechanical systems, including UPS, transformers, PDUs, RPPs, chillers, CRAH, CRAC, STS, ATS, and pre-action systems.
  • Expert knowledge of NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, fire life safety compliance, building codes, data center trending, and monitoring systems.
  • Proficiency in data center commissioning standards, Microsoft Office, and database or site-monitoring software.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States and able to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, late nights, and on-call shifts.
