Staff Software Engineer (Core Infrastructure)

Location: San Francisco, California, United States; hybrid work. The role requires the ability to access federal environments or protected federal data and U.S. Person status.

Salary: $194,000–$267,000 USD annual base salary, plus potential equity, bonus, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and deliver cloud-based infrastructure projects using Redis, Docker, Terraform, and AWS.
• Evaluate, develop, and roll out shared features, services, and engineering frameworks.
• Operate, support, upgrade, and scale multi-tenant services and frameworks.
• Review designs and code, write unit and functional tests, and maintain high engineering standards.
• Monitor services, troubleshoot issues, optimize performance, and resolve system bottlenecks.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship while collaborating with architects, QA, product, security, and operations teams.

Requirements

• 8+ years of programming experience in an object-oriented language, especially Java and backend services.
• Strong understanding of multithreading, garbage collection, memory management, and large-scale cloud deployments.
• 3+ years of experience with MySQL or equivalent relational databases, including database design and query optimization.
• 3+ years of experience developing, operating, optimizing, and troubleshooting web services on Kubernetes; AWS EKS or GCP experience is beneficial.
• Experience with REST, Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate, Tomcat, AWS, Redis, and Docker, plus knowledge of network security, authentication, and authorization.
• Must be able to submit documentation establishing U.S. Person status upon hire.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in computer science or equivalent.
• Experience with AWS EKS, GCP, gRPC, enterprise SaaS, and relational database query tuning.
• Familiarity with Agile software development.
