Head of Accounting Policy (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA; New York City, NY; or Seattle, WA. Hybrid policy requires staff to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time.

Annual salary: $300,000–$385,000 USD

What you will do

• Own and maintain US GAAP accounting policies across significant areas as the business and accounting standards evolve.
• Advise on novel transactions involving usage-based and enterprise revenue, compute and infrastructure commitments, financing and equity instruments, M&A, and investments.
• Build a rigorous whitepaper and position-memo framework to document accounting conclusions and support auditor and regulator review.
• Lead technical discussions with external auditors and the SEC, and drive resolution of complex or unsettled accounting matters.
• Prepare SEC-style financial statements, disclosures, reporting processes, and controls for public-company-grade reporting.
• Lead and develop the technical accounting and accounting policy team while advising leadership and the Audit Committee.

Requirements

• Active CPA license.
• Public accounting experience at a top firm reaching Director, Managing Director, or Partner level, or selection as a national office Senior Manager into the SEC Professional Accounting Fellow program.
• Deep US GAAP expertise and strong knowledge of SEC reporting requirements.
• Experience leading technical accounting or accounting policy at a high-growth technology company.
• Ability to research, conclude, document, and defend complex and novel accounting positions with external auditors.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, and experience in a relevant field.

Nice to have

• 15+ years of combined public accounting and industry experience.
• SEC, FASB, EITF, national office, standard-setting, or public-company reporting experience.
• Experience preparing a private company for public-company-grade reporting.
• Public speaking experience on technical accounting topics.
