Mechanical Product Design Engineer II (Automotive)

Location: High Point, North Carolina, United States; onsite. Applicants may work in or relocate to High Point, but relocation assistance is not available.

Starting salary: $86,000–$110,000 USD annually, depending on knowledge, skills, and experience.

Designs, builds, and sells commercial vehicles including school buses, trucks, chassis, and related transportation products for the American and Canadian markets.

What you will do

• Design and develop interior and exterior school bus body components.
• Create 3D CAD models, installation drawings, and bills of materials.
• Analyze production problems and develop technically feasible, manufacturable, and cost-effective solutions.
• Collaborate with production, manufacturing engineering, purchasing, fabrication, and quality teams.
• Prototype new systems, perform development testing, and apply test results to designs.
• Research vehicle-industry developments and apply relevant technologies and best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or an associate degree with 2+ years of related experience, or 6+ years of design engineering experience.
• Professional teamwork and written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with 3D CAD design; Creo is preferred.
• Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States; visa sponsorship and existing visa holders are not eligible.
• Successful completion of a criminal background check and, if required, a pre-employment drug screen.
• An attached resume is required.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes such as press brakes, roll forming, fasteners, and stampings.
• Ability to identify and solve problems on an assembly line.
