Senior Cloud Backend Developer (IoT/EV)

Location: Palo Alto, United States; on-site

Salary: $182,500–$215,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.

What you will do

• Architect and implement secure, scalable IoT backend infrastructure for connected electric-vehicle fleets.
• Improve cloud infrastructure across API design, database schemas, service interactions, event handling, observability, and deployment workflows.
• Build shared services for API gateways, caching, schema upgrades, and integrations with external services and partner platforms.
• Strengthen platform security and privacy, including user authentication, and design systems for high availability and geographic redundancy.
• Ensure production readiness through automated testing, performance monitoring, and safe deployments.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to technical decisions, hiring, engineering practices, and team culture.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building and scaling backend systems, including at least one full lifecycle experience managing remote devices.
• Experience designing, shipping, and operating production systems from scratch.
• Strong knowledge of REST and GraphQL API design, schema design, and data exchange using gRPC or JSON-RPC.
• Experience with event-driven architecture and message queuing systems such as Kafka, Redis, SQS/SNS, or publish/subscribe patterns.
• Experience with authentication and authorization protocols including OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, SAML, and mTLS.
• Familiarity with IoT protocols such as MQTT and CoAP, device lifecycle management, and telemetry pipelines.
