Staff Software Engineer (Java/AWS)

Location: Atlanta, Georgia, United States; flexible hybrid schedule

Salary: $150,000–$160,000 per year

What you will do

• Define and drive microservices architecture, engineering standards, and shared Spring Boot libraries across products and teams.
• Lead technical design for cross-team initiatives spanning Java, TypeScript, and Python services.
• Design event-driven systems using SNS/SQS, EventBridge, and Kafka, along with serverless solutions using Lambda and Step Functions.
• Drive cloud infrastructure decisions across ECS, DynamoDB, RDS, S3, CloudFront, and related AWS or Azure services.
• Own CI/CD and DevOps practices while improving reliability, observability, performance, and deployment velocity.
• Mentor engineers, lead design reviews, support hiring, and collaborate with engineering and product leadership on technical roadmaps.

Requirements

• Extensive professional engineering experience with progression through multiple levels.
• Expert Java and Spring Boot microservices experience, plus TypeScript with Vue or React for full-stack development.
• Deep AWS or Azure expertise, including ECS, Lambda, Step Functions, DynamoDB, RDS, S3, and CloudFront.
• Experience designing scalable event-driven systems, CI/CD strategies, and DevOps practices across multiple teams.
• Experience with Python for automation, data processing, or AI/ML integration.
• Strong system design, scalability, reliability, data architecture, communication, consensus-building, and engineering mentorship skills.

Nice to have

• AI/LLM integration experience with RAG, multi-agent workflows, or computer vision.
• Public safety or other mission-critical domain experience.
• Multi-tenant SaaS architecture, Terraform or CDK, distributed-systems performance engineering, security architecture, or threat modeling experience.
• Experience defining engineering hiring standards or contributing to technical blogs, conferences, or open source.
