TL;DR
Network Engineer - CBO (Cisco/Zero Trust): Designing, operating, and securing Cisco-based enterprise network infrastructure for a U.S. legislative branch agency with an accent on Zero Trust architecture, network segmentation, and NIST-aligned security controls. Focus on implementing 802.1X access control, hardening network devices, integrating centralized logging with SIEM, and supporting continuous monitoring and incident response.

Location: Washington, DC — hybrid; on-site presence may be required at customer facilities in Washington, DC and data-center/computing facilities in Ashburn, VA and Manassas, VA. Core hours are 9:00 AM–6:00 PM ET, Monday–Friday; occasional after-hours or weekend maintenance may be required.

Salary: $92,000–$110,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Operate, optimize, and troubleshoot Cisco core, distribution, access, and edge network infrastructure.
  • Configure and manage routing, switching, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and 802.1X network access control.
  • Implement Zero Trust architecture, segmentation, micro-segmentation, continuous verification, and least-privilege access.
  • Harden network devices and perimeter assets using secure configuration baselines, filtering, firewall optimization, and MFA.
  • Centralize network logging, support 24/7 monitoring and alerting, and conduct vulnerability assessments and remediation.
  • Support network incident response, forensic data collection, root cause analysis, documentation, and complex service-desk tickets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • At least 8 years of hands-on enterprise network engineering experience in Cisco environments.
  • Expertise in routing and switching, VLANs, DNS/DHCP, VPNs, and 802.1X network access control.
  • Working knowledge of NIST SP 800-53 controls and NIST SP 800-207 Zero Trust Architecture.
  • Active CCNP, CCNA, or equivalent demonstrable expertise.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residence is required, along with the ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust (Tier 2) suitability. FBI background screening and U.S. Capitol Police fingerprinting are required.

Nice to have

  • CCNP Enterprise or CCNP Security and CompTIA Security+ certification.
  • Experience with Cisco ISE, TrustSec/MACsec, Catalyst 9300 StackWise, Check Point, Palo Alto, or iBoss.
  • Experience with Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk, SolarWinds, or ThousandEyes.
  • Experience supporting federal, Congressional, or legislative branch environments.
