Location: Onsite at AEP headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, or Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant near Bridgman, Michigan

What you will do
- Lead legal counsel for nuclear generation operations and advise on compliance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations and applicable federal and state laws.
- Support the siting, permitting, licensing, and construction of new nuclear facilities, including small modular reactors.
- Advise on NRC license renewals and amendments, regulatory filings, litigation, hearings, and employee concerns matters.
- Handle nuclear export control matters involving the NRC, National Nuclear Security Administration, and Department of Commerce.
- Support Cook Plant contracts, nuclear fuel procurement, warranty claims, contract disputes, and spent fuel claims.
- Monitor regulatory developments, train stakeholders, and coordinate with nuclear operations, engineering, environmental, regulatory, and government bodies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- At least eight years of experience as a practicing attorney, including at least five years of nuclear-related legal experience.
- Active license to practice law in Ohio or Michigan, or eligibility to practice as Ohio corporate counsel.
- Strong knowledge of the Atomic Energy Act, NRC regulations, nuclear licensing, utility regulatory frameworks, and nuclear contracting.
- Experience preparing legal briefs and government filings, handling hearings, evaluating cases, and preparing witnesses for testimony.
- Excellent advocacy, negotiation, written communication, conflict resolution, and independent working skills.
