Head of Engineering, Payment Gateway (Fintech)

What you will do

• Own the technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the Monnify payment gateway.
• Lead multiple engineering teams through engineering managers and build organisational capability.
• Own the developer experience across APIs, SDKs, documentation, and integration workflows.
• Drive platform evolution toward multi-currency and international support.
• Ensure reliability, scalability, security, and compliance across payment products and services.
• Partner with product, commercial, and operations teams while hiring and developing engineering leaders.

Requirements

• Over 10 years of software engineering experience, including at least 5 years in engineering leadership.
• At least 5 years of hands-on production Java experience.
• At least 5 years managing managers and leading multiple engineering teams.
• Experience with payments, fintech, or financial services, including payment flows and compliance.
• Strong knowledge of API-first products, developer platforms, high-throughput distributed systems, and transactional backends.
• Experience with Java, Spring, Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, microservices, and AWS.

Nice to have

• Experience building or operating a payment gateway or multi-currency payment platform.

• Panel interview with two VPs of Engineering, followed by a technical assessment with the Group CTO and Co-founder.
• Behavioral and technical interview with the Group CEO and Founder, followed by a technical workshop with the Group CTO and Co-founder.
