Backend Team Lead (Java/Spring Boot, Fintech)

Location: Belgrade, Serbia; hybrid work with office attendance at least 2 days per week

hirify.global is an IT company working with Neon, a Zurich-based fintech startup developing digital banking services for the Swiss market.

What you will do

• Lead and grow a backend engineering team through mentoring, 1:1s, performance feedback, and career development.
• Build trust and psychological safety while helping engineers address technical and interpersonal challenges.
• Drive planning, prioritization, and delivery in an agile Kanban environment.
• Represent the team in discussions with product owners, QA, platform teams, and engineering leadership.
• Contribute hands-on to backend development using Java 21, Spring Boot 3, REST APIs, and Kubernetes.
• Run code reviews, knowledge-sharing sessions, and collaborative technical direction-setting.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Team Lead or Engineering Manager.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor, develop, and grow engineers.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to navigate team and interpersonal challenges.
• Solid experience building production-grade Java applications and working knowledge of backend architecture, SQL, REST APIs, and microservices.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
• Fluent spoken and written English; living in Belgrade or able to attend the office at least 2 days per week.
