Technical Specialist, General Liability

Location: NC - Charlotte, United States

Salary: $85,600–$141,200 annual base salary, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentives.

What you will do

• Handle severe General Liability bodily injury and property damage claims throughout the claim life cycle.
• Investigate liability, damages, coverage, and contribution potential through interviews, records review, outside investigation, and expert consultation.
• Evaluate exposures, establish reserves, maintain claim files, manage diaries, and ensure compliance with quality standards and state regulations.
• Negotiate claim dispositions and develop creative and alternative resolution strategies within delegated authority.
• Manage litigated claims, including counsel selection, litigation planning, legal expense tracking, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
• Provide technical consultation, training, coaching, and support to field teams and business partners.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree.
• At least two years of bodily injury liability claim handling or comparable litigation claim experience; three years is preferred for the role.
• Experience with coverage, contract interpretation, liability and damages analysis, litigation processes, case law, statutory law, and complex claim evaluation.
• Strong negotiation, customer service, written and verbal communication, analytical thinking, judgment, and decision-making skills.
• Knowledge of insurance policy language, exclusions, ISO forms, investigation principles, settlement techniques, medical considerations, and legal processes.
• Insurance licenses may be required and generally must be obtained within three months of starting, with continuing education thereafter.
