Liability Claim Specialist (Michigan)

Location: MI-Fremont Insurance, Fremont, Michigan; hybrid schedule with remote work from a home office and occasional travel. Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Salary: $67,371.20-$80,000 annually, plus potential annual company bonus incentive.

What you will do

• Manage complex Michigan liability claims from assignment through closure, including claimant communication, documentation, and claim-system activities.
• Investigate claim facts, evaluate coverage, policy limits, exclusions, damages, financial value, and recovery potential.
• Handle MCCA, catastrophic injury, and attorney-represented claims involving insureds, guardians, conservators, attorneys, treatment teams, and case managers.
• Determine and approve appropriate payments, create sub-claims, and refer cases to underwriting, recovery, or special investigation units when required.
• Apply state law and negotiate claim settlements while maintaining complete claim files and resolution plans.
• Travel within and outside the assigned territory, including visits to repair facilities, homes, patients, and other locations as needed.

Requirements

• At least three years of experience or equivalent training in claim settlement negotiation, evidence evaluation, estimating, subrogation, coverage analysis, statements, and claim resolution planning.
• Completion of the ACG Claim Representative Training Program or equivalent knowledge and experience.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a state adjuster's license within 90 days where required.
• Advanced knowledge of Michigan insurance, negligence, no-fault, no-fault reform, subrogation, intercompany arbitration, medical terminology, human anatomy, and simple litigation.
• Strong investigation, analytical, communication, customer service, organization, decision-making, and negotiation skills.
• A valid driver's license is required when duties include in-person inspections or frequent member meetings; the role may require evening, weekend, or overnight travel.

Nice to have

• Associate degree in business administration, insurance, or a related field.
• Insurance Institute of America General Insurance Program, Associate in Claims, Associate in Management, or equivalent qualification.
• CPCU coursework or designation.
