Head of Engineering, Payment Gateway (Fintech)

What you will do

• Own the technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the Monnify payment gateway.
• Lead multiple engineering teams through engineering managers and build organisational capability.
• Own the developer experience across APIs, SDKs, documentation, and integration workflows.
• Drive the platform’s evolution toward multi-currency and international scalability.
• Ensure reliability, scalability, security, and compliance across payment, payout, commerce, and developer-facing capabilities.
• Partner with product, commercial, and operations teams while hiring, mentoring, and developing engineering leaders.

Requirements

• Over 10 years of software engineering experience and at least 5 years in engineering leadership roles.
• At least 5 years of hands-on, production-level Java development experience.
• At least 5 years of experience managing engineering managers and leading multiple teams.
• Experience with payments, fintech, or financial services products, including payment flows and compliance.
• Strong knowledge of API-first products, developer platforms, API integration, and high-throughput distributed transactional systems.
• Experience with Java, Spring, Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, AWS, and microservices architecture.

• Experience building or operating a payment gateway or multi-currency payment platform.
