Staff Scientist

Location: Hibbing, Minnesota, United States; requires travel to local and regional project sites.

Salary: $50,000–$74,000 per year.

What you will do

• Perform environmental site assessments and building material sampling.
• Screen soil and groundwater for environmental impacts.
• Oversee remediation activities and coordinate monitoring and testing services for regulatory compliance.
• Collect field data, document test results, and review data for accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare reports and work with project managers and clients to meet project objectives.
• Support senior and regional environmental staff with regulatory matters and workload management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geology, environmental studies, or a related field.
• 0–1 years of experience in environmental consulting.
• Knowledge of data analysis, Microsoft applications, regulatory compliance, and reporting.
• Strong written and verbal communication, attention to detail, problem-solving, critical thinking, and mechanical aptitude.
• Valid driver’s license, clean driving history, and willingness to use a personal vehicle for company projects.
• Ability to frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift more than 50 pounds; work involves field and construction-related activities.

Nice to have

• OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
• MSHA safety training and iron mining industry experience.
• Experience with field data collection, investigations, and remediation oversight.
