TL;DR
Senior Process Metallurgist (Cast Iron Manufacturing): Providing technical leadership across melt, laboratory, and continuous casting operations with an accent on metallurgical standards, process control, product quality, and manufacturing efficiency. Focus on troubleshooting complex casting issues, analyzing process data, leading root-cause investigations, and implementing sustainable improvements for gray and ductile cast iron products.

Location: Onsite in Woodstock, Illinois, United States; travel up to 10%.

Annual salary: $100,000–$125,000.

What you will do

  • Provide technical leadership for melt, laboratory, and continuous casting operations.
  • Develop melt recipes, metallurgical standards, process instructions, and product-release requirements.
  • Optimize melting and casting processes, including tooling, cooling, refractory systems, molten-metal handling, and critical process variables.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing and quality issues, lead root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Analyze manufacturing and laboratory data to improve yield, process capability, quality, and cost.
  • Support new-product development, capital projects, supplier qualification, MES improvements, and customer-facing technical work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Five or more years of experience in metallurgical, materials, manufacturing, or process engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of metallurgy, materials science, cast iron manufacturing, process control, and data analysis.
  • Experience solving complex technical problems, leading cross-functional projects, and applying root-cause analysis and continuous-improvement methods.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or willingness to learn, Microsoft Office, and manufacturing data-analysis tools.
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; employment visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

  • Experience with induction melting, gray and ductile cast iron, and continuous casting operations.
  • Experience with metallurgical laboratory equipment, defect and failure analysis, or customer-facing technical support.
  • Experience with MES, ERP, Oracle ERP, ISO or quality management systems, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma.
  • Master’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Engineering, or Operations Management.
  • Experience supporting capital improvement projects and developing new products or manufacturing technologies.
