Vehicle Maintenance Technician (Heavy Goods Vehicles)

Location: Mercantile Road, Burnmoor, England DH4 5PH, United Kingdom; based at the Vehicle Maintenance Unit in Durham

Salary: £21.70 per hour, plus premiums of £2.33 per hour for work between 19:00 and 22:00 and £2.82 per hour for work between 22:00 and 06:00

What you will do

• Service and maintain the company fleet of heavy goods vehicles and trailers according to planned maintenance schedules.
• Investigate and repair vehicle defects, including ad-hoc repairs.
• Prepare vehicles and trailers for annual MOT testing to support first-time passes.
• Complete service, inspection, defect, and legal compliance records.
• Use automotive tools, testing equipment, plant, and ancillary equipment safely and effectively.
• Maintain housekeeping standards and perform other reasonable maintenance duties.

Requirements

• Fully skilled vehicle technician with applicable licences or vocational training, such as an LGV C&E Class 1 licence.
• City & Guilds Parts 1 and 2, or an equivalent qualification in commercial vehicle repairs.
• Knowledge of automotive equipment and testing or troubleshooting equipment.
• Ability to lift and manoeuvre heavy vehicle components.
• Experience with welding and basic DC electrical troubleshooting.
• Valid driving licence and previous experience in a similar role.
