System Software Engineer (Kernel)

Location: Spring, Texas, United States of America

Salary: $130,700–$205,200 USD annually, plus potential bonus and/or equity for United States of America candidates.

What you will do

• Develop, design, optimize, and troubleshoot Windows and Linux drivers and other software for commercial PCs.
• Lead multiple software development projects and coordinate internal and external development partners.
• Define communication protocols, system states, and feature requirements with firmware and software teams.
• Collaborate with hardware and firmware engineers to integrate system components.
• Review designs and project activities against systems guidelines and standards, providing feedback to improve quality and reduce risk.
• Prepare technical documentation, including design specifications, code annotations, instructional materials, and user guides.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 7–10 years of experience, preferably in Windows or Linux driver development.
• Deep experience with user-mode and kernel-mode device drivers, hardware drivers, and embedded firmware debugging.
• Proficiency in C; familiarity with Python, batch files, command shells, and other scripting languages.
• Knowledge of bare-metal systems, bootloader architecture, RTOS concepts, multithreaded firmware, and UART, I2C, and SPI protocols.
• Experience with source control, hardware debugging tools, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, schematics, specifications, and datasheets.

Nice to have

• Experience with low-footprint peer-to-peer decentralized systems, security development, cryptography, wireless protocol stacks, interconnectivity protocols, control systems, and fault-tolerant or high-availability systems.
• Experience with CI/CD pipeline development and novel system architectures.
