Firmware Engineer Intern, MS - Summer 2027 (Embedded)

Base pay: $34–$68 per hour, plus eligibility for bonus and equity plans.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain embedded firmware for data center, AI, SSD, DSP, and networking hardware platforms.
• Design device drivers and firmware features for SPI, I2C, I3C, UART, MDIO, PCIe, and NVMe communication protocols and RTOS-based systems.
• Build provisioning software and trusted firmware stacks with cryptography and secure protocols such as TLS/SSL and IPSec.
• Create Python and shell automation for testing, failure analysis, lab workflows, and infrastructure management.
• Design and execute unit, system, integration, and regression tests using continuous integration tools such as Jenkins.
• Collaborate with hardware, systems, QA, and customer solutions teams to debug issues, optimize performance, and support product releases.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a master's degree program in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with expected graduation between Fall 2027 and Summer 2028.
• Proficiency in Python and/or C.
• Comfort working in Windows or Linux-based development environments.
• Understanding of computer architecture, networking fundamentals, embedded systems, the OSI model, and TCP/IP.
• Strong problem-solving, verbal communication, and written communication skills.
• Eligibility to access export-controlled technology may be required under U.S. export control laws; an export license review may apply.

Nice to have

• Experience with Git, GitHub, Gerrit, Makefiles, GDB, IDEs, and Bash.
• Knowledge of ARM, RISC-V, TrustZone, Caliptra, Trusted Firmware, RTOS architecture, and device drivers.
• Experience with security protocols, digital certificates, cryptography, DSP concepts, Ethernet, SERDES, switches, and routers.
• Experience with GUI development, lab automation, customer SDKs, unit testing, system integration, and debugging tools.
