TL;DR
Field Application Engineer (Embedded/Automotive): Supporting the deployment of silicon technology into next-generation vehicles with an accent on embedded software development, SoC hardware interfaces, and cross-functional system solutions. Focus on root cause identification, software bring-up, and providing technical feedback to influence future product designs.
Location: San Jose (Holger Way), California. Willingness to travel up to 25% (mostly within California and Michigan) is required.
Salary: $121,400 – $166,900 annually

What you will do
- Develop and present cross-functional system solutions, including silicon design and validation plans to meet customer needs.
- Manage software bring-up, bench builds, software porting, and custom pre-development.
- Perform schematic and PCB design reviews and identify root causes of technical issues to drive cross-functional resolutions.
- Provide technical training to customers and NXP colleagues for products within the scope of responsibility.
- Collaborate with R&D, marketing, and sales to influence the design of future product offerings based on customer feedback.
- Execute disciplined project management of enterprise plans to ensure timely completion according to customer expectations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in development engineering or applications support of microcontroller-based embedded systems.
- Proficiency in C and C++ with a record of developing embedded firmware.
- Demonstrated knowledge of SoC hardware interfaces (Ethernet, MIPI, SDIO, LP DDR3/4, Quad/Octal SPI, USB, UART, SPI, I2C).
- Ability to personally troubleshoot technical issues, analyze data, and interpret schematics.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for presenting complex technical information to diverse audiences.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of ARM Cortex processors.
- Experience using Real-Time OS systems such as SafeRTOS, FreeRTOS, and Zephyr.
- Firsthand knowledge of graphics and video subsystems and related software drivers.
- Experience in automotive electronics and software development.
- Previous experience as a Field Application Engineer.
