Critical Environments Operator (Level 1-4)

Location: Aurora, Illinois, United States; onsite in a physically active data center with 24/7/365 shift work and after-hours emergency response

What you will do

• Monitor and operate data center electrical, mechanical, and HVAC/R systems to maintain uptime and reliability.
• Respond to building system alarms, protect critical loads, preserve equipment, and perform root cause analysis.
• Execute preventive maintenance work orders and follow SOPs, MOPs, EOPs, and MMRs.
• Use a computerized maintenance management system to track work orders, labor hours, and preventive maintenance.
• Coordinate contractors and vendors while enforcing Lockout/Tagout and other safety protocols.
• At senior levels, lead critical switching events, mentor operators, manage operational activities, and support capacity planning and reporting.

Requirements

• Ability to work onsite in Aurora, Illinois, on a 24/7/365 schedule, including on-call rotations, extended emergency hours, and after-hours response.
• Level I: 0–2 years in operations, maintenance, or customer service; no prior data center experience required.
• Level II: 3–5 years in Tier 2, 3, or 4 data centers or technical facility maintenance.
• Level III: 5–7 years in data center or building engineering, with journeyman-level electrical, mechanical, or HVAC/R skills.
• Level IV: 7+ years of relevant experience with journeyman or master-level expertise; active HVAC certification or Journeyman/Master Electrician license preferred.
• Strong safety, communication, problem-solving, decision-making, computer, Microsoft Word and Excel skills; ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform considerable walking, bending, and standing.
