Staff Engineer, Storage Product Planning (NVMe): Driving next-generation enterprise and datacenter storage roadmaps through NVMe, OCP, and SNIA standards with an accent on hyperscale cloud alignment, SSD architecture, and industry committee leadership. Focus on translating cloud vendor requirements into controller and firmware features, shaping storage specifications, securing patents, and coordinating compliance across Samsung R&D and global cloud architects.

Location: Daily onsite presence at the San Jose headquarters, United States, with 10% domestic travel.

Base pay: $152,000–$236,000 USD annually, plus incentive opportunities.

What you will do

  • Drive the enterprise and datacenter storage technology roadmap across NVMe, NVMe-oF, OCP, and SNIA initiatives.
  • Draft, review, and influence technical specifications, proposals, committee decisions, and industry standards.
  • Represent Samsung in storage industry bodies and collaborate with hyperscale architects from AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft, and Meta.
  • Translate hyperscaler requirements into features for Samsung SSD controllers, firmware, custom form factors, and storage architectures.
  • Identify and secure patents, monitor competitor strategies, and align emerging standards with Samsung R&D product requirements.
  • Create technical whitepapers, solution briefs, customer education materials, and support OCP compliance and cloud vendor qualification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of experience, Master’s degree with 8+ years, Ph.D. with 5+ years, or equivalent experience in a relevant technical field.
  • 10+ years of direct storage industry experience spanning legacy HDD systems, NAND flash, and SSD development.
  • Recognized influence, technical contributions, or committee leadership within storage standards bodies, consortiums, or vendor alliances.
  • Deep knowledge of PCIe, NVMe, FDP, telemetry, SAS, SATA, SCSI, SSD/NAND technology, and datacenter storage architecture.
  • Practical understanding of SNIA storage management, data security, lifecycle tracking, and OCP datacenter NVMe SSD specifications.
  • Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills required; the role is performed onsite in San Jose.
