Senior Staff Engineer, SoC NPU Architect (AI)

Location: 665 Clyde Avenue, Mountain View, California, USA; office-based role

Base pay range: $203,700–$305,500 USD annually, with annual bonus eligibility and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead NPU subsystem architecture, microarchitecture, interfaces, and performance and power tradeoffs for next-generation SoCs.
• Propose architectural features that improve performance, power efficiency, and area across targeted AI workloads.
• Develop cycle-accurate and analytical performance and functional models, simulations, and silicon correlation analyses.
• Analyze benchmarks, applications, and complex use cases, including CNN and LLM workloads, and map AI use cases to NPU IP.
• Co-design hardware and software for low-power, high-performance architectures.
• Document and communicate architecture proposals while collaborating with hardware, software, driver, OS, system, and global Samsung teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD degree in electrical engineering, computer science, a related science, or equivalent experience.
• 14+ years of experience in NPU architecture and development.
• Hands-on experience developing cycle-accurate performance and functional models.
• Strong knowledge of CNN and LLM models and experience with machine learning frameworks including TensorFlow, PyTorch, and ONNX.
• Proficiency in Python, SystemC, and/or C++.
• Experience with SoC microarchitecture, interface subsystems, logic modules, memory subsystems, multi-core systems, or memory coherency.

Nice to have

• Performance and power modeling experience with Platform Architect.
• Experience mapping AI use cases to IPs and optimizing ML models on GPU architecture.
• Experience with hardware memory management units and prefetching.
