Laser Engineer (Quantum Computing)

Location: Boulder, Colorado, United States; on-site

Salary: $130,000–$165,000 per year, plus annual bonus and equity.

What you will do

• Align, tune, troubleshoot, characterize, phase-lock, and optimize diode-based, fiber-based, and nonlinear optical laser systems.
• Design and model laser, amplifier, and nonlinear optical systems for new hardware builds and upgrades.
• Analyze, fit, plot, and interpret data from optical testing experiments to guide engineering decisions.
• Create and maintain engineering change documentation using drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and related instructions.
• Collaborate with experimental physicists, hardware engineers, and software engineers to integrate laser systems into quantum computing platforms.
• Plan project work, communicate technical findings and risks, and contribute to scaling the laser systems roadmap.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Optics, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of experience using and maintaining optical, opto-mechanical, or laser systems.
• Hands-on experience aligning optical elements according to documented designs.
• Experience with diode and fiber-based lasers or amplifiers, nonlinear optical materials, characterization, phase-locking, optimization, design, and modeling.
• Experience taking, plotting, analyzing, fitting, and interpreting data from optical testing experiments.
• Ability to collaborate across experimental physics, hardware engineering, and software engineering teams and work with engineering documentation.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Python and Git.
• Familiarity with Zemax, Onshape, and/or SolidWorks/CAD for optical and optomechanical design.
