Construction Field Engineer (Rail and Transit)

Location: Toronto or Mississauga, Ontario, Canada; field-based site work is required

What you will do

• Provide construction phase engineering services and field-based technical support for rail, transit, and major infrastructure projects.
• Perform site surveillance and verify construction against IFC drawings, specifications, approved shop drawings, codes, and standards.
• Monitor civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, architectural, landscaping, track, signaling, communications, utility, and catenary installations.
• Document observations, inspection records, hold points, witness points, ITPs, site reports, and photographic construction progress records.
• Identify non-conformances, clashes, installation issues, and design-related concerns, and coordinate their resolution with project stakeholders.
• Support reviews of shop drawings and submittals, RFIs, NCRs, field change requests, and site and technical coordination meetings.

Requirements

• Diploma or degree in civil, structural, or mechanical engineering, construction engineering technology, or construction management.
• 7–10 years of relevant experience in construction inspection, construction observation, or field engineering on major infrastructure projects.
• Mandatory rail or transit project experience, including transit stations, underground facilities, or maintenance facilities.
• Knowledge of applicable CSA standards, Ontario Building Code, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, CROR, NFPA standards, OHSA, and relevant municipal and provincial requirements.
• Strong technical, communication, organizational, client-facing, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
• Proficiency with BIM, Bluebeam, MS Office, project scheduling software, and other industry-standard tools; a valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License is required.

Nice to have

• Experience coordinating civil, structural, architectural, and rail systems interfaces.
• Registration with Professional Engineers Ontario.
